Throughout his time in jail Gambaryan developed malaria, pneumonia, and tonsillitis and suffers from problems tied to a herniated disc in his again, which left him in want of a wheelchair – although in a video from his final courtroom look, Gambaryan didn’t have a wheelchair and as an alternative needed to wrestle on a single crutch.
